Inge-Glas OrnamentsIn the late 1500's in Lauscha, Germany, the Muller family of glassblowers worked diligently to produce mouth blown glassware of the highest quality for their countryman and later for others all over the world to enjoy. Beginning in the 1860's, the Muller family specifically customized their craft for creating Christmas ornaments. As the generations followed, each would take great care to share their expertise with the next generation. Glassblowing was a cottage industry and every family had their own specialty. One family may have perfected ornaments of churches, while another created pinecones. The Muller family became renowned for their bird ornaments. These blown glass ornaments were crafted in the same workshops in Lauscha, Germany until 1953. At this time, the Russian occupation of Lauscha led 13th generation descendent Heinz Muller-Blech to flee to Neustadt where he established the modern day Inge-Glas workshops. Heinz crossed the border to seek out a new life in West Germany. Creating an Inge-Glas Christmas glass ornament is a time and labor intensive process. It can take up to seven days to produce one of their ornaments. The Star Crown is recognized worldwide as the symbol for authentic inge-glas craftsmanship, as well as German tradition and quality. The Bride's Collection and the traditional glass pickle ornament set are showcased here along with their famous bird offerings. We are pleased to make these outstanding ornaments available in the United States. |
